Riparian Plant Restoration Database (CREP, WHIP, and WRP)

Supports EQIP, WRP and WHIP

Restoration of native ecosystems and plant communities is supported by several NRCS programs including WRP, WHIP and EQIP. Restoration efforts can improve wildlife habitat and help to control invasive species. Many individuals and community groups in Hawaii are involved in restoration; however, inappropriate species have often been used in the past because technical staff and landowners lacked information needed to identify appropriate species for their location. To address this problem, NRCS provided funding and assisted the staff at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii to develop Riparian Plant Restoration: A Management Tool for Habitat Restoration in Hawaii. Version 1 of the database contains 37 common native species. Users answer questions related to their site attributes and desired plant characteristics. These questions automatically query the database and generate a list of plants that are most likely to be successfully established.

More information and copies of the database are available at the Bishop Museum Riparian Plant Restoration webpage.

The Museum has obtained additional funds from local sources and is now in the process of expanding the database to include over 100 species.
